Join me on the Silk Road in February as we travel from the Tibetan Plateau through the Taklamakan Desert to Kashgar. EPIC.
This journey begins in Xi'an, China's Silk Road capital and melting pot of cultures, from the Hui to the Han, before ascending the Tibetan Plateau to participate in the Monlam Festival. Masked monk dances, the unrolling of gigantic Thanka paintings, and chanting attract thousands of Tibetan pilgrims from far and wide across the Amdo region to several large monasteries.
We will then travel north into the desert to explore ancient Buddhist caves, stunning mountains and geographical formations, small Hui and Uyghur villages before reaching the Islamic bazaar town of Kashgar. Here is where the Uighur world meets Central Asia: Tajik, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Pakistani and of course Han people.
Dates: February 25th to March 11th, 2018.
Starting in: Xi'an, China
Ending in: Kashgar (Kashi), China
Price tag: $2,990 USD

Want to hop on a scooter and explore hill tribe villages and ancient pagodas? Join me this December in Myanmar.
I first visited Myanmar in 2006, spending a month travelling around the country. Back then the country was challenging to visit and procuring a visa was only possible when booked on a tour. Things have changed and Myanmar is now way more open for exploring. I'm set to return for an adventure through the hills of the Shan State to the ancient pagodas dotting the countryside around Old Bagan.
The journey begins in Yangon, the largest city and former capital, before continuing by train north to Bagan. We will then travel to Mandalay, spending a day wandering through markets with Burmese chefs before traveling deep into the remote Shan State near the Chinese border to explore Shan, Akha, Lahu, and Wa villages by scooter and foot.
